PUNK 57 - Penelope Douglass

 PUNK 57

PENELOPE DOUGLASS

omg omg omg!! this book was just sumthing..

Penelope aka the queen of angst ♕ did this book so well. it was so well written and i fell in love with this book and the main characters esp. the male lead.

altho this is my second book that ive read of her's i gotta say it kept me on my toes most of the time. there were a few moments in this book where my jaw wud just involuntarily open up.

trope: childhood penpals ➡️ enemies ➡️ lovers

SUMMARY (contains spoilerss)

so this book is about two 18 yr olds Ryen(girl) and Misha(boy). when they were kids(in the 5th grade i think) their schools did this kind of pen pal activity where each student from one school wud get paired up with a kid from the other school.

the teacher assuming both ryen and misha were dudes cuz of their unisex names, ends up matching them up as pen pals.

the two of them get really close and continue to write to each other on a regular basis as they grow up.

altho.. they promise never to track down  or research about the other person, hence being completely unaware of how the other looks.

cut to now, when they're currently 18 yr old high school seniors.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISHA

misha is one of my fav book characters...the reasons being:-

1.  he's a singer/lyricist and is a part of a small band where he's the lead singer.

2. since he's a lyricist he wirtes his own songs and has a way with his words. some of his quotes make me melt 😩

3. he's deadass hot not to mention he has a LIP PIERCING!!! (can i cry? like can i just cryy)

4. doesnt let anyone get away with doing shit or bullying and stands up for the victims.

so in the start of the book misha ends up losing his younger sister. he transfers himself to a school but is not aware that ryen also goes to the same school.

spoiler alert!!:  in the past his parents got divorced which leads to his mom remarrying and having a son. she never really cared for her first family and didnt show any remorse for when misha's sister died. the reason why he transferred to ryen's school is cuz the headmaster is his mom. and  he's on a mission to get back this watch which belongs to his grandfather but is now in possession of his mom.

RYEN

ryen comes across as totally different irl than how she was from the letters to misha. in the letters she's this sweet girl who cares for everyone. but irl she's a cheerleader who hangs out w the populer slot and bullies those who cant stand up for themselves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

misha realizes who ryen is and has several encounters w ryen. they def get off on the worng foot. all this happens while ryen not really knowing who this new guy in school is. misha goes by the name mason in the school.

stuff happen including alot of hooking up altho i wudve liked a lil more char dev and connection bw the two.

towards the end ryen finds herself falling for mason but a part of her still hangs onto to misha and hopes for misha to write back to her.

One of my ultimate fav part in this book was when ryen finds out who mason actually is. she gets so pissed off and feels betrayed that mason was misha all along and how he had used her w/o even letting her know who he really was. misha later on realizes that ryen got to know and goes to confront her about everything but she refuses to hear him out. this scene in the book was so heart-breaking❤ and was filled w so much of emotion. misha trying to tell her that he loves her and he didnt mean to use her in any way and ryen not wanting any part of him at that point.

this scene contains one of my fav dialouges from the book where ryen indirectly confesses her love for misha. fucking heart-breaking.....

“Because…” she whispers, avoiding my eyes. “Because

you want good things for the people you…”—she breathes

                  fast, barely whispering—“love.”

just when i thought this book cudnt get better was wen a few characters from the prev book i had read of hers show up ie; CORRUPT. i was speechless. had to put down the book for awhile to take it all in. holy shit.

.
